

Like all Blackened expressions, this whiskey was subject to the brand’s trademarked Black Noise process, which basically involves blasting the barrels with a subwoofer playing loud music to agitate the whiskey and increase interaction with the wood as it ages.

This is the first instance when a rock band used their own music in. The band’s music, played a pivotal role in shaping the character of the whiskey. This was a very well blended product by Dave Pickerell, but for a product being associated with Metallica, I was expecting something with a little more punch. Metallica’s Blackened whiskey is different. The story is gimmicky and the price reflects that, in my opinion. In 2019, Rob Dietrich, formerly of Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, took over the role and the new Limited Edition 72 Seasons Batch is the latest collaborative effort. Mike: Blackened was a pleasing whiskey to sip but nothing stood out and grabbed my attention.
